Proud Life-long
Forever Home & Community

Education
He excelled and pushed innovation via research throughout his training at the University of Calgary and University of Alberta.

First Exposure
Dr. Ryan Yau was first exposed to the vision sciences through his uncle, who is a world-renowned vision scientist at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

True Calling
His true passion is to bring that science and understanding directly towards restoring sight in patients.
Dr. Yau is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Calgary. He has been part of international eye missions, several local charities, and also teaches students, resident doctors, and runs an inter-university optics course. He has a command of all subspecialties within ophthalmology and sees patients from months old to over 100 years old.

Dr. Yau speaks Cantonese as a second language and his staff can cover over 10 different languages worldwide. Dr. Yau has been in practice since 2010 and has already seen many of his pediatric patients grow into adults while knowing many families on a first name basis.
Dr. Yau spends his time playing sports, reading historical fiction, travelling, and always trying to one-up his plastic surgeon sister in town! If you come in with a jersey on, carrying an interesting book, or wearing a souvenir from overseas, you may find yourself falling into a bit of a chat.
